Hi, I have the diesel it's essentially a good car but coming from an audi to mazda I can say the build quality is of a MUCH lower standard - the door skins actually bend when you open the doors - human centric camera doesn't work ever - my mazda app is useless - panoramic opening sunroof is a con it's a fixed sunroof with a tiny opening portion - don't think the seats and interior will last long - on the plus side I'm getting about 42/43 mpg I'm going to get some sound deadening in the doors to stiffen them up a bit, have a remote start fitted, have a global opening/closure unit fitted, and swith the app over to the remote start app so I can open the doors and roll windows up
The question is, what Audi are we talking about. Because things have gone down the drain quite drastically - same goes for Mercedes. Coming from Mercedes, I have to say, the Build Quality of the CX-60 is mind-blowingly good. All those things you noticed about the door cards being "flimsy" and others are turned to 11 in the new C-Class and even the S-Class to some extend.

My CX-60 Diesel is going to be delivered in September and I honestly can't wait to get rid of the E-Class in certain parts. Yes, there are things I'm going to miss, but Build Quality is certainly not going to be one.

Hi, Math. Cannot agree with everything you said, but that's the beauty of diversity :) I also drove Audi in the past and the "last drop in the glass" was when I was asked to pay in 2012 EUR145.00+VAT for a bulb headlight :) Totally agree with you on Audi interior quality and the noise isolation. However I still believe that Audi owners are overpaying for this.
Have fun and be safe, mate.
Hi, your absolutely right, part of the reason for parting with my q7 was the £1500 for disks and pads - I just wish mazda had charged the extra 2k and finished the job properly my doors sound like a 1970's cortina and I bet the cars nice sound system would be loads better with sound deadening as well - I would rather pay 2k extra on the asking price rather than have to spend that on retro fit

I own a CX60 Diesel and the quality is light years away from any Audi, include the baby A3, having owned one of them for many years. Never owned a Merc, always saw they as cheap feeling tbh.

My cx60 has done 1000 miles and it already feels like its aged more than my previous A3 at 25k miles. Im dreading what they will look and feel like a few years down the line.

I agree with all the points you made.

It really would not have cost them much to put sound sound insulation in and some proper dampers.

The dealer will do the doors for you for free btw, its part of a service bulletin. My advice take your own sound proofing rather than the crappy 1mm 30cm stuff the dealers get given by Mazda to use.

Mines getting redone next week so I am taking some 2.5mm Killmat with me.

Ill be doing the boot myself...and eventually the floorplan and wheel arches.

I felt better build quality with cx60. We tried BMW X1, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40 and comparing with all these with similar price range CX60 got better build quality. I don't compare this to an X3 and its much better than CX60, but X3 costs £10-15k more with similar specs.

and yet you cant take your kid in the back as you think the car is hurting them?

The new Q3 certainly isnt a patch on the older one in materials but the build quality of Audis is far superior. Owned many.

Hi, Each to his own but I would say wait until its delivered - I've owned 3 audi's over the years an A3 a A5 and a Q7 and I can say now owning an cx60 that the audi quality is way way better like off the chart better I'm not knocking the cx60 but to say its a rival to the Q5 or X3 just isn't true its about the same as a rav4 and slightly better that a kuga that's why it in the 45-50k price bracket and not the 60-75k price bracket of the audi bmw equivalent

True about the suspension! Yesterday service advisor told me CX60 got adaptive suspension and I was laughing myself inside.
Personally I hate Audis and Merc. I see so many plastics and piano blacks in those. Also Audis are mostly a facelifted VW. I prefer the build quality of BMW, their adaptive suspension and their recent models like X1,X5s got amazing build quality. I love the stiffness with Msports models they provide, but their adaptive suspension also provides the comfort in other modes which I really miss in this one.

Are you in the UK as I believe the dealer sound proofing is only available in the USA- can I ask who's doing the deadening for you as I'm going to get mine done and a recommendation would be nice

The CX60 is not availabkle in the USA.

It has been widely known there is a TSB for sound deadening in the doors. Read through the forum and all will be revealed.

My dealer has done both my PHEV and Diesel, free of charge, as per the TSB Service Bulletin.

Price brackets doesn't mean quality. It's just brand value. Rav4 got amazing build quality, and we got a 2014 model at our home with no issues at all yet. Toyota just done free suspension replacement recently under warranty on our vehicle.

You're commenting without owning though, you cant really do that about build quality, as you've never owned.

the Q5 is a little dated now, it has been out for over a decade though. The new Q3 and A3 saw cost cutting on materials due to emissionsgate but the build quality, not material quality, is much better, without a doubt.

The interior of the CX60 is absolutely wonderful, its just a shame they didnt add that level of finesse to other areas.

Hi, oh I thought it was - most of the video I watched on YouTube about the car was american - how do I find out about if I can get the free sound deadening plus was it any good I was going to get aftermarket stuff fitted

Read through this section of the forum.

The Mazda stuff is not the best, Im taking my own 2.5mm kilmat stuff next week for another go which the dealer is doing for me FOC.

Q3 is a joke! I call it a Tiguan, nothing more than that. Get a Tiguan and you save some money.

You could call it that if you wish. Apart from the somewhat agricultural interior, the build quality is excellent, and one of the first to include adaptive cruise etc as standard. We have two Q3's in the family, and the build quality exceeds the CX60 considerably.

I think you are mistaking 'interiors' with build quality.

OK- I was trying to get to the bottom of wether it's official - like have mazda issued a statement saying it will provide sound proofing to all cx60 owners free of charge

It is official, once you read through the page you will find the TSB (service bulletin) number for it (and others). Im suggesting you do this instead of just giving you the answer as there is swarms of information here that you may also benefit from, lots of TSBs and recall numbers.

Build quality also includes interiors. When we first thinking of getting an SUV we first went looking for Tiguan. Then again in Tiguan subreddit people are complaining about oil leak issues ( which is a major one in Tiguan ). We don't want to end up most of the time at dealer. So we dropped it, we then went looking for a Q3, and we didn't like the interior of the Q3 first as so much plastics in there. And when we did a test drive, I felt the engine a bit stressed under heavy acceleration. Also you won't get HUD/360 cam with a Q3! And the dealer told us, since Q3 is not their hot selling model it takes a year and half to get a new model. We took a test drive of XC40, but the boot space was really small so we dropped that from our list as well. We then went to test drive X1 and we immediately loved it. But I don't know if it was our luck our build got pushed to next year, issues are popping up now as more people are getting hands on, people reporting transmission errors, quality control issues, software glitches. Their new 7 speed DCT transmission is plagued with issues.

I've currently got a Tiguan diesel (190). Over the last four years, I've never had an issue. Very much looking forward to my new PHEV, despite so many negative comments 😀
