Well, what you've experienced is normal. If you sit in the car without ignition on for 30+ minutes, it triggers the warning. I believe they still left this based on time and not on actual voltage. But the issue we had, was somewhat different. We were getting this warning after the trip. And it kept popping up. I haven't received that warning after latest update. And I do a lot of short trips. Currently it's -22 in Sweden. Car started normally today, no worning appeared:) Going for the steering rack recall tomorrow.
do you know exactly what was the particular SW update which I shall ask my mazda dealer to get instaled? thanks 😉

Well, I could tell a similar story, after the update neither I received a 12 Volt warning, not even once during several weeks... until it blew up.

TL;DR:
The warning was removed from the interface, but the condition, whatever it may be, which may trigger it still remain.

What happened.
The other day I put the vehicle on charging and when it was almost fully charged decided to do some tinkering with Android Auto.
It was freezing cold and so the cabin heating was very welcomed - a perfect combination while the battery was connected to the charger.
When attempting to start the “engine”, got the message that driving is not allowed while still connected to charger. No doubt.
After some 30 minutes following happened:

Tried to turn off the car with the main power switch - no luck.
Tried to close the car with the key fob - no luck.
Meanwhile, the car turned itself to an amusement park: the display started to blink, and the brake pedal moving up and down. No kidding!
Funny intermittent noises from motor room made it complete.

At the same time, Mazda Connect informed me about following revelations:

Rrrright.
Knowing this car model's propensity for hallucinating, disconnected the 12V battery (-) lead from the chassis and obviously everything stopped.
Then brought the 12V charger and checked the state of charge - catastrophic. The battery was as empty as it was possible, the probe indicated no useful charge at all.

After recharging overnight, I reconnected the battery and everything was again perfectly fine and dandy.

Conclusion:
1. While the main battery is being charged, the 12V one is perfectly able to discharge itself completely.
2. While 12V is being discharged, no warnings whatsoever will be issued.

Never a dull day with this car

I got the last update for this (along with 7 other updates) from my dealer a few weeks ago. No 'empty 12V battery' messages anymore!
Very happy with this result:)

That's odd that they just removed warning completely. However regarding charging 12v while charging main battery. It is true that 12v doesn't charge in this case. 12v is only charging when car is turned on. So, if you were playing with the car withiut turning it on in cold temps, this drained your 12v battery. Although, warning should have come up.
