Hi, new member here, located in UK. I have had my CX60 since September. Mainly short local journeys in EV mode. Warning has appeared on dash telling me that the 12v battery is low, and to start the engine. I have done about 40 miles on engine only, but warning still appears with annoying sound that continues for 30 seconds. I connected a battery charger, and left it overnight, for two nights running. Warning still appearing. Help!

I bought a CX60 on 12/22/22. For the first two weeks, the beeping of the 12V battery annoyed me in various ways. Then I drove about 2000 km in 3 days and the 12V battery didn't come back. I wonder how long it will last. Most of the time I drive an EV in the city. The gasoline engine works for me only occasionally.

I am in Warwickshire. Maybe a stupid question, does the CX60 have an alternator? I heard somewhere that some PHEV's don't have them. How else would the engine charge the battery? Unfortunately, I don't profess to be a mechanic. Seems that Mazda batteries are at fault. Never had battery trouble with my CX5.

Near Huddersfield.

I’ve just been out to my car to x-ref the voltage my diagnostic tool reports vs the socket one I’ve got.

The good news, they agree.

The bad news, in the 45 minutes between parking the car and getting a reading of 12.7v the battery voltage had dropped to 11.9, which is low!

I’m going to hook up my charger to the 12v battery once the weather is good enough for me to go out.

So, according to my Ctec 7 stage charger, battery was fully charged. One journey later and the damned message on the dash again.

I beginning to think the battery is goosed.
I went to the service center with this complaint and yesterday they called me and changed my 12v battery. Until now, the message has not appeared. It seems that the problem is solved.

On another forum, it has been suggested that problem is with the smaller backup battery, not the main battery. This was confirmed in a conversation with the service manager at my dealer.

The voltage measurements mentioned above only relate to the main battery.
Sorry, do you mean the battery that is located on the passenger side just underneath the windscreen? If so, that is the one I thought was the problem. When you say main battery, do you mean the one that actually drives the wheels!?

Steve. I found something under the drivers seat, towards the front. Black plastic cover. Holes in part of it with what looks like a heat sink inside. Two button looking objects on it. Thought I could remove the cover somehow, but didn't want to damage anything. Possibly have to lever off the buttons maybe. Could this be the elusive battery?

Hi All.
New member from UK here.
Just took delivery of the CX-60 diesel.
Maybe dealer wanted to give me the car quickly and the PDI was not performed as it should.
From delivery until now each time I unlock the car or switch it off I have this 12V battery warning.
I have driven over 200 miles now (one trip was nearly 2 hours) so the battery should have been recharged by then. Unfortunately it's not a case with me.
Car is going back to the dealer and hope they will be able to resolve this and few other issues.

Same issue with mine, couple of weeks into ownership. in fact, similar to you, this problem emerged after a long trip, before that I had only done short trips and it was fine. The first time it appeared was the day after a two hour airport run.

PDI not done properly despite me raising these common issues and updates prior to collection and they promised it was all done.

Another week to wait until they could fit it in.

So fed up with Mazda now, two of their 'premium' cars and two of the worst PITA's I have ever owned. It wouldnt be so bad if I didnt have to wait three weeks to get an appointment to fix the thing.

Managed to get the car booked for an update for tomorrow morning.
Dealer confirmed that there is an update to the BCM to remove the 12V warning.
It should take about 45 minutes to update.

Regarding the personalisation system - they will look does the system store any codes and will take it from there.

I picked up my (PHEV) car on the first week of March (2023) and after 1,250 miles, with about half in EV and half ICE, I have not experienced this. However, I recall that the dealer’s showroom vehicle had this problem when I first sat in it in February. Maybe a software or some other update has fixed it?

Little update on the 12v issue.

With the battery being fully charged on Friday morning, and the Low 12V Warning persisting, the car has been stationary since then, and this morning my dash cam is telling me that the battery is now low (it shuts its parking mode down when the battery is critically low).

Therefore there is still a draw on the battery from somewhere, so the Mazda recall module programming seems to have failed in this case.

So 12V Warning is a legit one after all. I assume that you use powerbank for dashcam parking mode and camera is not a culprit for battery drain. I don't think is to hard for Mazda service to find what is drawing current when car is not used but looks like it is a bit harder to fix it. What is more troubleing is that it looks like it is not charging as it should while driving a car.

I have the same 12V warning from day one since I own my new car. Not every day, but most of the time it will show up.
Anyone knows what the final fix is for this issue?

Replace 12Vbattery?
Software update?
And59's method?
Replace hole car?
Ignore it?
Duct tape on the screen and remove speaker?

Edit april 6th:
I got an software update from my dealer a few weeks ago and the problem is solved! :) (y)

I didn't have this issue after dealer made some updates. Drove 600km after this, both really short trips and longer ones. But it probably depends on the car.

I had all the updates done a week ago including the 12v battery update. However, whilst sitting in the car for over 30 minutes resetting everything with the ignition only switched on. The dreaded 12v low battery warning, please start the engine for 5 minutes appeared along with a continuous bonging sound.

The ICE engine would not start via the ignition only so I had to drive away on EV, switch to SPORT mode and give some welly. I drove about five miles and when back home, switched off, and no 12v warnings.
It has not re-occurred since, but I have not been in a position to have the ignition only switched on for any length of time.

Well, what you've experienced is normal. If you sit in the car without ignition on for 30+ minutes, it triggers the warning. I believe they still left this based on time and not on actual voltage. But the issue we had, was somewhat different. We were getting this warning after the trip. And it kept popping up. I haven't received that warning after latest update. And I do a lot of short trips. Currently it's -22 in Sweden. Car started normally today, no worning appeared:) Going for the steering rack recall tomorrow.

I got the last update for this (along with 7 other updates) from my dealer a few weeks ago. No 'empty 12V battery' messages anymore!
Very happy with this result:)
