Today finaly made first move toward buying Mazda CX-60 PHEV. Local dealer gave me a car for one hour test drive. Some of my impressions are much different of what is described by lot of people here on the forum. Test car was full spec Takumi version. First, wife changed opinion about Takumi. She at first wanted Homura, but after today's drive - now she wants Takumi :)

Lots of things I compare to my current car, Audi A6 quattro 3.0. TDI, 2007.

Suspension - this was a pleasant suprise. So many critic on the internet about suspesion - I was thinking that this will be the weakest point, but it is not. It is much softer compared to my Audi and the ride (deliberatly driving on bad road and lots of bumps) was very smooth.
Gearbox - it is a little rough, especially compared to Audi, but it is not a big deal.
Acceleration - a bit dissapointed - a 100 PS more than Audi, about the same weight, but just a little bit quicker.
Space in cockpit - more than expected, more than enough, but a bit less than Audi. Seats are ok, but not excellent, a bit short and firm.
Driving feel in cockpit - Audi shines here, Mazda can not match, but that was expected.
Sound insulation - very pleasent suprise - much better than Audi, dead silent to 130 km/h, above just a bit wind noise. Of course there is loud engine roar when full gas, but this is not a problem. Was afraid about that reading forum...
Sound quality (Bose) - biggest dissapointment - it is utter rubbish, total crap. My Audi stock sound system is high end hifi compared to this. Can not understand Bose putting its name on so low quality soundsystem. Unfortunately have not stock system to compare with.
Front doors a bit too short.
Tailgate opens too low for my height, have to duck to acces trunk.

All in all it is better than expected. Next week go testing another car from the list (list has only two cars - another car is Volvo XC40 recharge dual pure electric) and then decide.

That also was my very first impression, but... I was wrong!
The sound quality is fantastic, however for some weird reason it is disabled by default.
You have to enable it explicitly in the in-car setup, especially Centerpoint.

I forgot to say that I am professional audio engineer. Centerpoint is messing with phases (as is the too many speakers too) and destroying sound quality. My goal of listening music is as possible close to original studio sound. Making pseudo surround from stereo recording is exactly opposite. If I want surround - I will listen recordings which are mixed in surround, but surround is complete another story.

I know that is popular to have and listen music heavily effected, but this is not a quality. I won't go in the matter of someone taste, just trying to be objective. And that is that frequency response of the system, sound transparency and details are - crap. Ok, I have to admit that I did not had time to dive deep into settings, but tried various things in the setup and result was pretty bad, especially compared to my Audi, which is not something extraordinary, just average good car soundsystem.

Ha! Now you woke up my curiosity 🤓
What was the source of sound you used? DAB? Android Auto? BlueTooth? USB?
Fm, but good and strong stations where I know their sound chain (was atualy working for them long time ago). It is enough for judging the sound. I do not know how is Bluetooth quality in Mazda, but sometimes it can be worse than FM.

There is no DAB in Croatia...

OK, so it could be a lousy FM receiver (Bose still), or something with antenna, or anything else beyond your control in this chain.

If you only get a chance, it would be very valuable if you could try some other input sources, because they are never equal.
For example, on my previous car, the CX-5, the receiver, CD and USB were noticeably worse than Bluetooth (but all of them were nothing to write home about).
Don't know the brand, but not Bose, though.

Well it could be the case that it has really bad FM receiver (reception and everything else was in the control), but I doubt. I had only 15 minutes for check, but as I said - these are first impressions. But if the FM receiver is so bad - this is problem for me because when driving locally I am most of the time on FM...

Completely agree, comming from a 2018 Mercedes E... came to almost same conclusion (after 5 test drives thou 😅)
Ended up buying the Takumi, I have 8.000 km on it now and despise problems (many of them discussed in this forum) most have been corrected and I have no regrets.
My biggest concern is quality in the long run "and depreciation" as this is my first Mazda and it does not give me great confidence so far. This might change once the stream of bugs dryes out (hopefully)
I also tried the Volvo, much better hybrid transition but not enough towing capacity so I would have to step to XC60 and I then it was too expensive.

Burle, there is one more thing: Mazda did not do any sound deadening on its other model's subs, nor this one, nor in the doors of the early CX-60s either (in fact, tomorrow I will have doors retrofitted by Mazda).
As a sound engineer, you know how important the whole room is.

Yes, that could be a reason. Actually, the sound is like there is an acoustic short between back and front of the speakers. But maybe I did not spent enough time to make a good setup... Anyway, if i order Mazda I will do it without Bose. The package is almost 3000 € and tinted glass, 1500 W socket, Bose and electric liftgate i do not really need. For that money I could buy my self a new electric bicycle :-D .

Don´t judge the system before listen to USB with music in FLAC format, Even the best B&W studio speakers sounds like crap if source is weak.
For this difference in sound quality a good FM station is more than enough for judging. FM must have sound at least as in my Audi, but this is far, far away from that. When basic sound is ok, then you can talk about FLAC...

Funny you say that ;)
In Sweden, in exactly same package (CONVENIENCE & SOUND PACK) there is also a "see through" 360 degrees wide camera-view included.
This was the main reason I opted for it (and the rest being a nice bonus) - it's priceless for narrow places, and very practical to have in all others.

I just checked.. There is nothing about the 360 camera in description of the package, but when I check list of the equpement I choose there is no 360 camera. I will ask the dealer. If it is in the package then I will consider to take it.. Thank you for pointing it out :)

Made test drive with Volvo and decided to buy Volvo... Mazda is very good vehicle, but a few things tipped for Volvo

  • decision to go full electric
  • availability. Mazda I have to wait 6-8 months. Volvo, exact model, colour and options was ready on the main site of the dealer, just rolled out from the factory. Delivery in two weeks.
  • much better sound.
  • overall better driving comfort. Much more premium feel than Mazda for the same price. It is smaller vehicle, but it is just a bit smaller trunk, cabin space is about the same.

Mazda is a great car and decision was not easy.

Anyway, this forum was great source of info for Mazda. Good bye everybody and enjoy your great cars :)
