In Verona last week saw 2 CX-60s park near our Restaurant. Got talking to the drivers. Mazdas of any type rare in Italy
They were Danish. They were doing a family use simulation but were cagey about who for. (Mazda mag maybe?)
Both cars were top of the range and the Diesel was the high power one.
Both cars were loaded to simulate a family and baggage. They were doing a round trip through Germany Austria Italy France and home. Doing Cities, mountains, motorway etc. They swapped cars every now and again and compared notes.
Very reluctant to discuss the findings in any detail but did get some generalisations:
Running cost : Diesel way ahead due to low fuel price on the continent. But deals on Diesels not good at moment. Worry about being banned.
Comfort: Both liked seating etc. Cabin noise OK. Diesel noisier at motorway speed.
Steering and stability only OK
Suspension: Both cars felt better loaded up!
City driving: PHEV
Motorway one preferred PHEV the other the Diesel
Overtaking: PHEV in Sport
Steep Hills Ascent: PHEV if you have some battery, else Diesel
Steep hills descent: Diesel apparently felt more controllable and Safe
Brakes: Diesel felt stronger
Issues on journey: None! No unexpected warnings.
Both hated lane keeping assist!

Going to try towing in a future test apparently. Nice work if you can get it

I left my e-mail but I don't think they'll get back to me.:D

Interesting comments.

I'd actually say the PHEV brakes were stronger due to the Regeneration drag applied.

If they had the regen low or off, then this could explain why as the PHEV is a lot heavier - like carrying 2-3 average humans around over an empty diesel car which will always affect braking.

The Diesels technically cheaper than the PHEV in the UK interestingly, maybe they are cashing in on the lease BIK for the PHEV?

Can't comment on Diesel brakes as no real mileage. My PHEV brakes are sometimes reluctant to "bite" initially in a hardish stop. Did wonder if after a lot of gentle driving the pads get dust or glaze on them due to lack of use!. When I first had the car and was testing it out on a dry road I never once had the antilock kick in. Even in the wet it usually only occurred momentarily.

Thanks for sharing, Phil. (y)(y)(y)
I have a PHEV CX-60 at moment. I test drive diesel last week and i agree with your friend comments, the diesel is very very good. In my home country the diesel is not for sale so i chose PHEV to as i travel from England to home sometimes. I like the diesel better.
