I’ve been following the forum for a while and it’s been a great source of information, with all the good and bad reviews I still love the idea of purchasing my 3rd Mazda in a row ( Mazda 3, cx5 now cx 60) I’ve now had two test drives but there are a few questions I would like to be answered by the real users rather than the dealer,

1. what real world range have you experienced with a full fuel tank with either no battery charge or one full charge? My cx5 currently covers roughly 320miles between fill ups ( mostly short trip around town )

2. Does anyone feel the recharge mode is actually beneficial, when driving back to the dealer EV mileage went up by 5miles on a 7 mile trip ( town driving) it’s hard to gauge on a short trip without knowing the loss on mpg.

Thanks in advance Rob

Very hard to be precise but I think I get around 37mpg with a warm ICE so assuming i keep 1 gall back that's a range of about 370, plus whatever EV miles you get. As its a bit warmer I'm getting about 2.3 miles per Kwh in totally mixed mileage.
Personally don't see the point of recharge even if charge costs a are fairly high. The reports by others are not entirely convincing to me (an engineer).

Hi,
there are at least two points for using the recharge function:
  • I had to leave my car in a parking lot for two weeks, and wanted a certain amount of capacity in the battery; therefore I used the recharge function
  • I wanted to pass through a city on EV mode, and I wanted to arrive at my 2nd home in EV mode; I left my house in NL in EV mode (battery 90%), on the motorway I selected recharge (which did not do anything because I was still above the 50% i had selected for the recharge);
during the trip EV mode was sometimes active, but not a lot, and recharging took hardly place.
Nearing the city of Luik (Liege, Lutich) in BE, I deactivated the recharge function and drove on EV mode through the city.
Again on the motorway (with a steep climb after the city) the car mostly used normal mode.
Leaving the motorway with several descents the battery charged itself even from 8-9% to 12%, so I could drive the last part to my 2nd home in BE on EV mode.
Arriving with only 3% in the battery.
During the trip my fuel consumption hardly varied.
I left with an average of 6,3 l/100km, around Luik it went up to 6,4 l/100km, and descended again to 6,3 l/100km.
And I haven’t done the maths yet, but with a low petrol price in Luxemburg, it might be cheaper to use recharge then charging from another source.

Thanks guys, great to get your experiences, it all seems quite positive. Would just be happy to get the same range as my current cx5 considering the cx60 is so much heavier, has the milder weather ( uk ) had any effect on anyones ev mileage at all? It seems like low 20’s is a fair expectation during the winter.

Last few days the range says 34. I get around 2.3 m/kwh now (no heated seats, wheel, screen) .Makes a huge difference.

I’m getting 42mpg on average and 2.9m kWh.
I have quite a few issues with overall build quality. It’s well below that of the Audi, BMW and Mercedes I’ve had, but above that of Toyota.

Sorry to hear about the build quality issues, is it something mazda are looking into or just general poor quality?

agree about the Toyota, I’m considering the rav 4 phev but it just doesn’t feel as high quality, although it does seem to have better EV range for a similar size battery,

This may just be additional confusion on range: I did a trip yesterday, and to entertain my Grandson (8yrs olds and a total car freak) I had the energy flow picture up. I was in normal with slow and high speed running. This picture says pretty accurately how far you have gone in EV . Over 45 miles I did 31 in EV and used 11 KWh . So about 2.9 miles per KWh. The battery was down to about 25% and predicting 3 miles. Journey start said 31 miles on 100%.

It’s good to hear as many experiences as possible as it adds to the bigger picture on how the car performs 👍

So at about 35p per kw that works out to about 12.5p per mile, if my calculations are correct that’s not bad, let’s hope the electricity cost doesn’t change too much at the end of March when they remove the price cap.

so can you get a display on the console showing where the power is going i.e when recharging through regen braking?

In the "Information" menu there are several options to play with.

Let me raise a question more or less connecting to this topic.
Guys, what is the maximum amount of fuel you were able to load into the tank? Last week I tried to empty it as much as I can, I drove until the combined range fell to 1 km. I was able to fill 44 liters only, although the size of the tank is 50 liters, according to the specs.

Every car I've owned has had about 1 or 2 gallons in the tank when it read empty. Similarly, range predictors seemed to plummet faster as the tank runs down. My guess is that makers don't want people suing them for running out of fuel when thy have had plenty of warning, also nearly empty tanks will possibly clog filters with debris in the bottom of the tanks.
Got to ask: Why did you want to run to empty,? Were you running circles round a gas station?:D

Hi Sándor,

The tank capacity is 50 liters but you are not able to use all because Mazda decided - based on the info from Mazda Dealer - that 10 liters have to be reserved in the tank to save the engine (no comment).
I cannot not fill the tank with more than 35 liters from the beginning (the first filling after the takeover of the car was 37 liters only). I have an appointment at the Mazda service on Monday and this is one of my point what they have to check and solve. I will post the result of this inspection.
Greetings

I drove on a highway with plenty of gas stations available, so it was easy to do, no unneccesary rounds :)

I would like to know how much further I can drive when the empty tank notification comes up, that was the reason of the experiment.

When the fuel is low, the warning light
flashes RED and a warning sound is
activated at the same time, approx. 5 liter left.
Refuel immediately.
