I've got a CX-60 PHEV and can pull 2.500kg. I tried it with a trailer with approx. 2200kg of sand and a flat road. It was an easy ride for the car.
The towing mode activates by the way when you plug in the trailer cable. (13-pin Jäeger connection)

 

Thank you, looks like I should not be worrying too much for the extra person in the car. Mine has 7 pin trailer connector, I am going to check this weekend if towing mode going to be activated on 7 pin

 

In my car is the Towing mode always visible, but not able to choose. It’s darker grey.

Just to share my experience. 2800lb boat and trailer + 2 persons in the car. Electric motor had no problem to tow it alone. Range dropped from 45/47km to 29km. After full discharge ice had no problem to tow also. Towing mode was not showed up on my GS model.

2nd time towing I just switched to sport mode to keep ice running and leaving battery for the boost on passing and long hills.

 

What is the total towing capacity? I assume trailer +boat together get close to 4000lbs?

 

In Canada CX-70 PHEV is only allowed to tow 3500lbs gross weight. Manufacturer stated my boat trailer package dry weight is 2500lbs. 90 l gas, upgraded motor adds another 120lbs. So I'd say close to 2800-2900 with tackle, anchor, etc.

 

So kinda it is not as 5000lbs as they have in their website.
I find Canadian version of cx70(highest trim) surprisingly less equipped. Like it does not come with bigger screen, it is touchless, missing lane center assist and strange towing capacity for phev.

 

True. Mine is very ascetic, as I am on lowest trim. Does not really bother me - I am leasing it for 3 years. Towing was a concern however.
