CX 60 - Should I buy??

11560 Views 103 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Southeastern
Hello all,
Just new to the forum.
I have recently put a deposit on a CX60 that is due in May 23.
I took a demo on test drive for 2 weekends for fuel economy checks, comfort and so on, and I was happy.

I came across this forum after I paid my deposit and after reading about the unfortunate problems you are having, I am thinking it might be a mistake. 🤦‍♂️

Could I get some advice on what to do in relation to cancelling the order, or could these problems be resolved before they leave the factory on the future builds.
Thanks in advance

Thanks guys for your advice,

I initially went to the dealer to look at the CX 5 Dsl as we pull a touring caravan in summer.
I fell in love with the CX 60 when I saw it next to the 5.
Towing capacity, fuel economy and looks.
I took one for a weekend from 1 dealer to see how the fuel economy and motor distance was ok. I did get 61 km on EV and 56 km to the gallon petrol. so I was happy with those figures. Were these figures the same for you when new?

Felt the problem with the rear suspension ok and the dealer said they have a fix for that.
I didn’t experience the Lane assist while on country roads. I took another 1 from the dealer I did the deal with to check the figures again, and they were roughly the same.
My main concern is the EV economy. My wife would be urban driving it mainly and we would be charging it evenings/night. But some of you guys have had bad mileage on EV. May that be down to on board electrical usage etc,? Have Mazda themselves said they are looking in the issue?

I rang the dealer today ref my concerns and he said the earlier builds had some problems but are being resolved as the come across them. (Might be sales talk.)
I would hope this is the case. But then it is a lot of money to spend and then be disappointed.

If you read through the problems thread, it addresses some of your questions. Me personally, I get 20 miles to a full battery and have done since October in a mild climate, and around 24-32mpg on petrol after 3000 miles. Check your electricity costs per kwh as you may find, like many in the UK, that battery charging for the range given is more expensive than petrol, so ultimately useless on the financial side of things. Also, make sure you reset the mpg info on the dash before a trip (hold down the Info button on the steering wheel). It does not read accurately when it is an accumulation figure. This is a mistake I made when I first got the car, and I only wondered why when I was visiting petrol stations more frequently than my previous vehicle, yet the mpg indicator was claiming I was getting more to the gallon. I think many cars are all starting to go in to have some fixes applied now, mine included, so you'll see more information come out as and when this is completed.
When I picked the demo up I request the battery be discharged. I filled the tank to the neck and I drove it in charge mode. I set the battery to 100%. It took 137kms to fully charge it and I filled it again and it took 14.4 lt. I then drove on EV and got 61km. Then drove on petrol of another 137km and it took 13.1 lt to the neck. Just over 1 lt of fuel to charge back to 100% But as I said this is the main concern for me and I have to listen to what you have to say on this. I will call into the dealer and discuss it in detail. thanks a million.

Wow
I read through the problem posts. It seems one problem after another.
Is your car gone in to the dealer yet? Or can you comment yet?
I don't think you need to worry, I have had an AUDI SQ5 and my last car for the past 3 years was a T5 Volvo XC40, before I bought my Volvo i registered on a Forum, LOL...I would have ditched the car if I had listened to all the problems...they where so bad, yet!...there where many optimists, and never had a problem....as with my new car CX60 Homuru....(I needed a bigger car)..I have owned it for 4 months....it outshines the Volvo and beats the SQ5 for value...I love this car, firm ish ride...but the quality is top notch....Forums always tend to concentrate on issues and are there for a place to view and make ones mind up.....if I had registered on here before I bought, I too would have changed my mind....so glad I didn't, and enjoy every minute I am on the road with this Soul Red Beast....love it...
Yeh my buddy said the same ok.
But 65300 € on a car and hear the trouble that’s happening with it🤔.
Dealer has assured me that Mazda are committed to this car and said they have to get it right.
I really like the car and fortunate to be in the position to buy one. He said we can talk to their head tech to see what’s going on with issues ..
Any one know how many were sold so far??

Best of luck with the new car and hope you have many miles trouble free driving.

I am still on the fence. I still have time and don’t mind if I loose my deposit. I have untill the end of Feb before I have to give the dealer my car. So I am just going to watch how lads get on with updates and mods.
Interesting to hear about price decreases on this years price list but our price list here in Ireland is still the same.
I’ll let you know. It currently has 32 miles on the clock but I haven’t looked at mpg yet apart from the range on EV when coming back from the dealers.

it should climb to 2 or 3 hundred by the end of the weekend .
Just over 1 lt of fuel to charge back to 100%.

it will be interesting to see what you get. Enjoy👍

I charged my car with the button during the trip to Italy on the highway. from 20% to 100%. the journey was 1000 km long. consumption 7.5L/100km.
Do you know how many kms it took to full charge on ICE ?
approximately 1.2km= 1kmEV+. At a speed of 135 km/h
Yeh I got similar. 60 odd km to the gallon. Which is not bad for that size of a beast.
This is a really interesting experiment but I'm not sure I fully understand your testing correctly. This implies it would cost (in Ireland) about €3.50 (€1.75ish per litre) to complete 100km+ on EV only, if you charge the battery only using the ICE.

Based on this post by @Pavel with consumption from the network @ 27.13kw/100km and the price at an external charger at around 51c per KW/h it would cost €14 to complete the same distance. I know electricity has become very expensive right now, but even stepping back to when it was 0.3c per KW/h it would still mean a cost of more than double at €8

Am I missing something obvious, or making an error in my calculations?
Hi pixelmad,

I collected the demo (New with 400kms) from the dealer with 1 km on batt but bat not fully discharged. I filled it to the neck and drove it until the battery was full 100% on ICE. Took 137 km on flat enough terrain and normal driving, nothing mad. An odd burst.
Filled it to the neck again and it took 14.4 ltrs.

Drove on EV from Kildare to Dub and a bit of urban driving. Got 61 km. Same nothing mad. Temp was around 9 deg. Night time, dry, heating set 21deg. Fan on 2. Bare minimum consumables on.

When the battery showed 1 km on the dash I switched to normal mode. Next day drove it for another 137.4 kms just normal regeneration charge and filled it to the neck. It took 13.08 ltrs to fill it to the neck.

So the calculations are that it took just over 1 ltr of fuel more to charge the battery. (Inc regenerated charge)

Some say they would not switch on ICE, but I wanted to see what the cost in fuel difference was. If I drive on a long drive and my battery has depleted, by turning ICE on I would get a full battery and then switch to EV. If I got 137KM on ICE driving and 60 odd on EV. That’s nearly 200 kms for 14.4 ltrs. 63km to a gallon. Again brand new car. So will it stay the same.
Mazdas economy claim and 6 year warranty caught my attention along with the looks, tow capacity and so on. Perfect, I thought!

Now I don’t have a PHEV and it was the first contact I had with same.
So the guys on here are experiencing different economy figures and have had problems that I don’t like. I have been watching and reading all the posts to see what’s being fixed and how customers are being treated by Mazda and how they are tackling issues. I still haven’t cancelled the order. I have until the end of feb before they take my car for trading.

Sorry for the long blurb, don’t get much time to reply or participate.

PS
The first demo was same on battery but I didn’t get to do the ICE test.

Thanks for all the additional insights. This effectively equates to 6.6l/100km without ever plugging the PHEV in, based on your driving which would be similar to my own I think. I'll be taking a demo out for a brief drive next Friday and if I like it I'll arrange to take it for longer. There does seem to be a lot of issues with the car, albeit from a vocal minority. I imagine. by the time yours (and possibly mine) is shipping it will have a lot of the issues addressed, particularly around the software. The one that concerns me most, and what I'll be focusing on on the test drive, is ride quality. I got rid of my X5 (E70) a couple of years ago specifically because of the "crashy" ride quality and I'll not be be buying a car the exhibits that type of behaviour again.
Deffo take it for a few days if you can.
Now I did feel the suspension issue that the lads were talking about but most lads feel the difference with the mod from what I read.
The cold , terrain and drive style is obviously a big factor to the EV range. I did hover 100-110 kmph on the motor way. Some say it was good for the first couple of k, but then drastically changed. The first demo was aug22 and had 4000km and the ev range was good.
As you say I hope most of the issues if not all are sorted.

Shop around if you are buying, I was getting prices on my trade in of 3500 difference in quotes. Good luck👍
