Hi

I am interested in what type of charger you all use to charge your CX60 at home.
Is it a simple one, without an app, or a more intelligent one with app, and balanced loading or even more?

I know the CX60 maximum load capacity is 7.2 kw/h. Makes it sense to buy one with a 22 kw/h capacity? Although the prices are not similar, the difference is quit small. I am aware of the connection issues at home. 400V 3 phases.

I try to find out the best one for a reasonable price for me, when the car arrives in June.

Thanks in advance

Hi.
I got the Mazda offer for a half price Pod Point Solo 3.
You don’t need 22kW. Car can’t support it. The installation for the charger comes with a current monitor so that it can’t overload the house capacity.
It has an app, but I use a Home Assistant setup for my smart home and there are integrations into the smart setup for both the car and the charger:

Product Font Circle Logo Brand

Product Font Communication Device Screenshot Multimedia

I have all sorts of automations set up, starting the climate at a certain time and triggering the car to charge at the same time to stop the climate using the battery.
Routines to warn me if the boot is open (I occasionally knock the key in my pocket) via a message on the phone
Turning the charger on as I arrive home and off after I unplug it. Stops others helping themselves to a free charge if I’m away.
But I am a geek.

I bought this https://cdn.thg.dk/DAT/Files/52480.pdf when I got the car in September 2022, has worked flawlessly since

Thanks for the reply so far. We have solar panels and I like to know if balanced loading works well?
I know 22 kw/h is too much for this car, but the extra costs are minimal and I will be prepared for the future. Or is 11 kw/h the max at home? I am not an electrician :)

I think it depends on how many phases you have into your property.

Sorry, I can't assist with the solar question.

Not sure what you mean by balanced loading, i have solar panels myself (6,46 kWh) and with max power output inverter produce approx. 6,35 kWh to grid, the charger is hooked up to 400V/32A and can deliver 22kWh, when hooked up car charge with ca, 7,4kWh, you can not "overpower" the car, it takes what it need, and can not be "overpowered"

Balanced loading means the system monitors the power network capacity and in case the power supply is too high, it will lower the capacity of the charger.

HI,
I have a Wallbox Pulsar installed in the appartment garage. The cables were already installed but only 16A, 220V (no 3 phase) so a maximum charge of 3,8 Kw is only possible.
But the advantage over the provided home connect cable is, that additional safety features are within the Wallbox Pulsar (temp, overload) and for future use (eventually full electric will be the way) load balancing, and charging up to 22 Kw is possible.
But in NL there is a debate about safety with loading electric cars in garages beneath an appartment building.
The Wallbox Pulsar works excellent with easy control via your phone.

Thanks for all the replies. It's hard to make a bad choice I guess. It's more how many tools do you want, or need to adjust your loading process. Because my car will come in June, I don't have experience. I have chosen for click. It's with an app and together with the Mazda App it will give me a lot of possibilities.

I bought the half price (Mazda offer) 7kWh home Pod-point. Works great. But another consideration is material. Although I have yet to use any Pod-point public charging, they require no monthly subscription (unlike BP Pulse). Again I have not tried, but according to the Pod/-point APP, Pod-point public charging at my local Tesco is merely £0.28 per kWh. I have checked other locations and other providers and found some require £0.70 per kWh. It will rarely trouble me, but long distance motorists need to do a bit of research before committing to any make of home charger or network and a holistic appraisal seems justified.

Can I recommend Octopus.
If you go for their agile tariff you can work out the best time to charge at home. Tonight it’s as low as 7p/kWh in one half hour slot.

They also do a card that you can tap on a variety of different charging brands for a 5% discount (not pod point though).

Get the Zap Maps app and you can plan where to charge for the best price. Stay away from Genie. They billed me for 11kWh for a one hour charge and we all know the car can’t charge at that rate. Ignored all contact I’ve made with them to discuss.

If you want to join Octopus, send me a DM and I’ll give you my sign up link for a £50 each credit.

New to the forum. Took delivery of my fully spec’d Homura CX60 and my first PHEV (part ex‘d my CX30) on Friday and drove straight to Netherlands where I spend around 50% of my time. Used some of the advice on this forum to use the on board charge mode to hold the battery level at 60% and then switched to EV coming off the motorway. Worked fine and the only niggle is frequent wireless charger disconnects with my iPhone 12 Pro reported elsewhere in the forum. Otherwise loving the car so far.

Anyway to the point of contributing here which hopefully is broadly keeping to the topic of the post;

I also use Octopus and am taking the PodPoint offer from Mazda in April. Octopus charger options seemed to be pretty expensive for no real advantage. Pod Point’s engagement has been pretty good and they even had a date for Friday to fit it, which I couldn’t get to work for me. I definitely recommend Octopus’ Electroverse card which works perfectly and also abroad in Netherlands where chargers are on most streets - they have a labs option to use the phone to start the charging instead of the using the RFID card. What caught me out was the meagre 4m charge cable which saw me embarrassingly having to turn the car around with the cable locked to the car as I couldn’t work out how to unlock it (since sorted). Longer cable on order!

Question for @SteveMilner (and perhaps others?), can you control the supply to the charger so someone cannot simply park up and take your power? I haven’t found any information on this and something that folk might be interested in. What home automation do you use as I am similarly kitted out in my property and perhaps that will give options?
