Hi
I am taking our CX60 over to France from the UK in a few weeks and have not been able to find out about the need or the placement if needed of beam deflectors for the headlamps.
Anyone know?
I will be collecting our caravan whilst there. Anyone with experience of towing with a CX60 got any feedback on economy/handling/ how the hybrid system copes etc? Thanks

If you have adaptive headlights the diagrams show a symmetrical beam pattern unless oncoming traffic causes a localised dimming. Following is a quote from a CX30 manual (apparently). Can't see why CX60 is different.
Headlights do not blind drivers approaching in the opposite direction no matter what
side of the road you must drive your vehicle (left-hand or right-hand traffic).
Therefore, it is not necessary to adjust the optical axis of the headlights when
switching temporarily to driving on the opposite side of the road (left-hand or
right-hand traffic).

There should be no need. See the manual under "Light Switch"

Thanks UKPhil, I don’t think I have adaptive headlights, it was an option? I had seen similar posts saying this whilst searching but as it also says in the manual - don’t rely on this system! Hence the confusion!

Thanks, and matrix LEDs are standard in all models?
Adaptive LED headlights (matrix LED lights) are a option, that comes with the driver assistance pack.

So I finally got to get in the Mazda dealership today and asked them. Apparently no need for any deflectors. Just set the headlights to auto and that’s it. The headlights give a flat pattern so there is no need for any defectors. And this is standard on all CX60 models.

I did my first tow a week or so ago.

I have a Bailey Olympus 2 620/6 with the maximum weight upgrade pack - Big old TA beast, 1,700kg weight.

My previous tow car was a Shogun and I was in the habit of just hooking up and off I'd go without thinking. With the CX60, when I did this the ride was very bouncy. However, on the return journey I moved some of the weight from the caravan and put it in the Mazda boot and it improved the bounce no end.

Otherwise, towing very easy - The only thing you may have an issue with is extension mirrors. My old set wouldn't attach. I had an old suction type one which I used for the outbound journey, so not entirely legal on the tow, and bought a second suction one for the trip home.

I've seem some places that custom make mirrors, but they are very expensive so I'm going to stick with the suction type.

The car is almost wide enough not to need extension mirrors.

Average MPG while towing was 24 over 35 miles of Yorkshire hills and 30 miles of more gentle motorway hills (Huddersfield to south of Chesterfield)

Hybrid system just 'did the job' in my opinion.

I estimate a maximum petrol range of about 250 miles, so you may need to plan more fuel stops than you are used to.

Thank Steve,
Mirrors aren't an issue, I have the type that screw down to the top of the mirror housing and seem to do the job.
MPG is what I was expecting. TBH I would use the car as a regular petrol engine car whilst towing on such a long journey, any boost from the hybrid system would be a bonus.
My main concern is the 12v battery holding its charge with the caravan's leisure battery also charging from it. Any issues there?
6 weeks into ownership I had to call out the dealership as the car was 'dead', both the 12v battery and the hybrid battery were flat. Apparently a software update has resolved this issue and I have been assured it won't happen again. I do now get the dash message occasionally 'restart engine to charge 12v battery' - (or words to that effect) but no issues with flat batteries or loosing charge overnight as was happening. I really don't want to be stuck in rural France with a dead CX60!

No issues with the battery while towing. In fact for the first few days after towing I experienced far fewer 12v warnings than I normally get.

I also had the mirrors that screw onto the top, but the gap between the CX60 housing and the CX60 mirror itself was very tight to the point that I was knocking the CX60 mirror when trying to fit. I'd do a test to see if yours are better if you haven't already.

When the car switches to towing mode it starts the ICE and then uses the electric motor for boost.

A bit of a worry regarding the dead car - Lets hope that has been fixed for you. I'd also verify that Mazda Assist, or whatever it's called covers you for Europe - I asked in the dealership and I was told it covers all of mainland Europe, but I read somewhere else that it was UK.

Don't forget to order you CritAir sticker.

Good to hear about the battery, tbh I only get the warnings after a few local runs or had the boot/doors open for a while to clean, a trip further afield usually resolves it (for a while). Not ideal though.

Yes, tried the mirrors so should be alright. I was more concerned about them knocking the bodywork when they fold in automatically but because these attach to the top of the housing this isn't an issue.

I understand the Mazda cover is Europe as well. Mine is a lease car which has European cover so touch wood between the two I'm covered.

Good shout about the CritAir sticker, much appreciated, not driving abroad regularly over the last few years I've taken my eye off the ball as to what is required. I should've learnt my lesson last year, we took our previous car through the middle of Freiberg, Germany and only realised afterwards we should've had an emissions sticker. Had no come back on it so a lucky escape.
